VISP. Because of drought, a wildfire broke out in Visp area Tuesday, April 26, 2011. The fire started in a garage and then spread to the adjoining forest. Several fire departments and more than eight helicopters fought the fire. On Wednesday the fire was under control but firefighters were remaining cautious and were monitoring the forest. The army has made available a vehicle equipped with an infrared camera in addition to the two Super Puma helicopter already in place since Tuesday afternoon.

On Monday at 4:30am, a Swiss Air Force Super Puma (FLIR) conducted thermal pictures of the disaster area to monitor smoldering fires. During operations, one of the army helicopter had to make an emergency landing because of mechanical problems.
